Taking to X, formerly Twitter, McGregor explained the reasons behind the cancellation, and seemed to dispel any fears the fight itself would have to be postponed.

'The Notorious' wrote: "In consultation with the UFC, todays press conference was cancelled due to a series of obstacles outside of our control. I apologise to my Irish fans, and fans around the world, for the inconvenience and appreciate all your passion and support. I can’t wait to put on the greatest all-time show in the Octagon."

The event was scrapped just 12 hours before both McGregor and Michael Chandler were meant to appear on stage at 3Arena in Dublin. The UFC were abrupt in their announcement, not offering a specific reason or rescheduled date.

"The #UFC303 press conference scheduled for Monday June 3rd in Dublin, Ireland at 3Arena has been postponed until further notice," the UFC said in a statement. "We sincerely apologise to all the fans who were planning to attend.

"When we have further information on a new date and time, we will share it immediately. – Thank you." All fans set to attend the event did not get charged for their tickets, but it was a first-come, first-served occasion. The tickets were sold out in minutes.

While McGregor apologised to his fans, Chandler instead opted to publish a photo of him training on Instagram once the news had dropped. Chandler was sparring with a teammate at Kill Cliff MMA in Florida, and posted a photo with the caption: "Denying yourself of your passions is a slow suicide.

UFC president Dana White also announced that he was flying to Dublin on Sunday immediately after UFC 302 had concluded, with Islam Makhachev beating McGregor's former rival Dustin Poirier in the fifth round via submission. The fight between McGregor and Chandler is still on, but the press conference couldn't go ahead for an undisclosed reason.

McGregor's big comeback fight is scheduled for June 29, taking place in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena. The Irish star has been pushing for a return to the UFC for some time, but hasn't fought since losing to Poirier back in 2021.

Poirier beat McGregor for the second time in his career that night, as 'The Notorious' fractured his tibia during the bout. Since being absent from the UFC some of McGregor's biggest fans have expressed concerns, with the 35-year-old becoming even more of a party animal than he once was.

With his big comeback locked in, many assumed he would focus all of his attention on the fight and stop the bad habits, but he was filmed dancing in a club with just one month to go until UFC 303. Chandler's last fight was also against Poirier, but more recently in 2022.

Chandler also lost, with Poirier securing a third-round submission to win the bout. Chandler has lost three of his last four fights, and a win for McGregor would almost guarantee a quick return to the ring as he aims for another title shot.
